The Fulton school

The intern school under the Fulton Foundation is acknowledged by the municipal council of Assens.

The school was, as an experiment, established in 1981 with only one teacher. It was soon proved that teaching was a good idea and the school was made a department under the Fulton Foundation and an additional teacher was employed. In 1989 yet another teacher was employed, a needlework mistress to teach in the newly established needlework class. Unfortunately we had to close down the workshop in 2003, but just now we are about establishing a workshop for creativity where also drawing and painting will be part of the teaching.

At present the staff counts one principal and two teachers.
- One primary school teacher with a course in how to teach backward readers.
- One primary school teacher just now taking a course in social pedagogic.
- One needle work teacher with additional education as teacher.

The schools curriculum includes the following subjects: Danish, mathematics, English and, when needed, German.
Lessons are organized individually, taking in to account every single pupils needs and level, starting where he is best – socially as well as technically. Before the actual teaching can start is it important that the pupil retrieves faith in himself in order that it is worth the while to engage in learning.
The majority of the pupils have experienced so many defeats in school that it is paramount that they get the feeling that they are able.

Teaching goals are that they reach a level from which it is possible to go on in life or seek further education and/or from where they take responsibility for their own life situation.

School term finishes with an intern examination organized considering the level the pupil has reached.

Those pupils who have the appropriate age and have gained the proper abilities continue their learning and conclude their exams on primary school final level on one or several subjects.
As per 27th of April 2003 an agreement with the Assens Community has been established and thus we follow the legal demands concerning teaching.
